Reflection on Online Identity DIGC101!
So far I am very pleased with my online identity. After a few chops and changes, I feel as if I am moving in the right direction with my blog.
Initially I was going to focus soley on hard news issues concerning the world. I realised that this limits me and I would basically be repeating other journalists, which is what I did not want to do. I want my blog to be practice, like a portfolio. I want to encorporate with my Journalism specialisation so I can keep on improving on my writing skills. Thus, I have decided to have different categories of articles, making up my ‘news pie’. I will have news articles, opinion articles, profiles and polls. Essentially, my blog focuses on attracting a demographic of people residing in the Sutherland Shire, and preferably attending UOW. However, others will find interest in what I have to say. This demographic will aid in making my project culturally specific and tailored to an audience.
The blogging platform I have chosen (Wordpress) is easy to work with, however, I am still learning the ropes which is time consuming. I find that it is restricting because I cannot upload and stream audio, which is why I have also created a Youtube account for audio streaming, videos, and slideshows.
I have access to an SLR camera so I want to take some photos and make audio slide shows with them to compliment my articles.
After the lecture/lab today I have learnt that it is valuable to have an online presence that is engaging, because many other succesful people such as Yair Amichai Hamburger and danah boyd have used the internet to showcase their research. This has also prompted me to write an article about the internet, to encorporate class material.
